Markets in Barcarès
Barcarès has markets spread across three distinct locations, covering both mornings and evenings in high season. It is one of the few villages on the coast to offer night markets several times a week in July and August.
The Fishing Port stall is open every day — it's the only place where you'll find ultra-fresh fish caught the same morning by local fishermen. Arrive early (before 9am) for the best selection.
Night markets are held in season only (mainly July–August). They generally start in the evening from 6–7pm and run until 11pm. Confirmed schedule available from the Barcarès Tourist Office.
Staying in Barcarès?
Apartments and sailboat — direct booking, 5 min walk from the village market.
Perpignan has one of the highest concentrations of markets in the region, with locations in every district and covered markets open throughout the day.
The morning market is held on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at Place de la République in the village. In high season, night markets are added at la Coudalère, la Grande Plage and the Village. The Fishing Port is open every day for fresh fish.
Is there a night market in Barcarès?
Yes, in season (July–August): Friday and Sunday evenings at the Village (Place de la République), Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings at la Coudalère (Place de la Martinique), and Tuesday and Thursday evenings at la Grande Plage (Place du Tertre).
Where to buy fresh fish in Barcarès?
Head to the Quai des pêcheurs — Fishing Port, open every day. Local fishermen sell their morning catch directly there. It's one of the few truly direct-from-fisherman fish stalls on the Catalan coast.
What is the best market in the region not to miss?
Outside Barcarès, the Canet-en-Roussillon night market (every evening in season, seafront) is unmissable. For a more authentic experience, the Saturday market in Céret in the Vallespir is renowned throughout the region for its quality and Catalan atmosphere.
Are markets open outside of the summer season?
The village market (Place de la République) runs year-round on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Fishing Port is also open year-round. The Coudalère and Grande Plage markets, and all night markets, are in season only (generally June to September).
